CORHIO implemented two Wolters Kluwer health IT solutions to improve interoperability and health data standardization.
The Colorado Regional Health Information Organization recently deployed two Wolters Kluwer health IT solutions as part of an effort to promote interoperability, improve health data standardization, and offer network participants more advanced health data analytics and reporting.
The health information exchange network implemented Wolters Kluwer’s Health Language Interoperability and Data Normalization solutions to provide network participants with the necessary clinical information and insights to assist with population health initiatives.
Specifically, the solution will help CORHIO participants to improve patient health outcomes for disease states including diabetes and congestive heart failure, as well as other public health issues.

“CORHIO has entered the second evolution of its interoperability journey as we advance our infrastructures to generate more meaningful, actionable information,” said CORHIO CEO Morgan Honea. “Our partnership with Wolters Kluwer enables us to cross the chasm from information to knowledge and create strong visualizations that deliver value for our members.”
The HIE network will also use the Health Language solutions to normalize large swaths of disparate data into a single, standardized source. Currently, CORHIO maps about 80 percent of its general lab information to LOINC’s universal code system. By standardizing data, CORHIO can help network clinicians more efficiently integrate information into patient EHRs and clinical workflows for streamlined clinical decision-making.
Health data standardization also helps to promote improvements in interoperability by enabling providers to more easily share data with clinicians at different healthcare organizations, hospitals, and health systems.
With the tools to more easily engage in health data exchange, CORHIO participants will be better positioned to succeed and earn incentive payments under federal reporting programs including the CMS Promoting Interoperability program.
“HIEs are increasingly charged with helping members realize the promise of big data through smarter analytics that drive successful population health programs,” said Wolters Kluwer Clinical Software Solutions Health Language General Manager Dan Buell. “We are excited to work with CORHIO to lay the foundation for the next-generation of HIE.”
The new health IT solutions will also help CORHIO participants manage information governance and utilize standard code sets for administrative and billing processes, as well as EHR clinical documentation.
Collective Medical Joins SHIEC Partner Program
Elsewhere in HIE news, care collaboration services provider Collective Medical recently joined the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative as a Strategic Business and Technology (SB&T partner.
Other health IT companies part of the member program include 4medica, Ambra Health, Audacious Inquiry, InterSystems, Verato, and Medicity.
Health IT companies can join SHIEC as an SB&T partner through an application process. By joining the partner program, health IT companies gain access to leaders in the HIE industry.
“We’re honored to be a supporter of SHIEC and its members, including the more than dozen HIEs with which we currently partner across the country,” said Collective Medical CEO Chris Klomp.
“The most vulnerable among us have needs that are not, and cannot, be served through any single point of care or entity,” Klomp continued. “Working together is the right thing to do and another step toward making true care coordination a reality.”
Collective Medical provides real-time, risk-adjusted event notification and care collaboration services for providers across emergency, in-patient, post-acute, mental, behavioral, and ambulatory care settings. The health IT company’s solutions can also be implemented by accountable care organizations and health plans.
“SHIEC is excited to have Collective join the SB&T Partner program,” said SHIEC CEO Kelly Hoover Thompson. “SB&T Partners are selected based on their ability to bring unique, value-added solutions to our HIE community members. Collective has proven its value to HIEs and their members by providing rich, actionable insights to providers at the point of care.”
