Scott Stuewe will now lead health data exchange alliance DirectTrust, while leaders from MEDITECH, Epic, and NextGen will join EHRA’s executive committee.
DirectTrust recently appointed DataFile Technologies Director of Strategy and Interoperability Scott Stuewe as the its new President and CEO to advance health data exchange among member organizations.
Stuewe succeeds former DirectTrust President and CEO David Kibbe, MD. He will officially take his place at the helm of the non-profit alliance on September 1.
“On behalf of the entire DirectTrust Board of Directors, I am thrilled to welcome Scott to our organization,” said DirectTrust Board Chair Bruce Schrieber.

“Scott is a dynamic leader, true visionary and collaborator, and an innovator of healthcare information technology. He has leveraged an entrepreneurial spirit to envision, create, and bring to market new solutions and processes that have helped shape the industry. We look forward to our next stage of growth under his leadership,” Schrieber continued.
Stuewe brings over 27 years of health IT experience to DirectTrust. In addition to his current role as Director of Strategy and Interoperability at DataFile Technologies, Stuewe also spent 24 years at Cerner. Most recently, Stuewe served as Cerner’s Director of National Interoperability Strategy.
At Cerner, Stuewe led the health IT company’s national interoperability initiatives by boosting participation in the CommonWell Health Alliance. Stuewe also helped to enable the connection between CommonWell and the Carequality framework.
Stuewe plans to further improve healthcare interoperability in his role as DirectTrust President and CEO.
“As a part of the overall interoperability landscape, DirectTrust plays an essential role in ensuring that patient health records are communicated safely and securely, and that participants know to whom they are connecting when they exchange information,” he said.
“I am honored to join DirectTrust. I look forward to working with our members to build on the impressive growth of this secure network achieved by Dr. Kibbe and the HIT community in just a short time,” he continued.
Kibbe announced his decision to step down as DirectTrust’s President and CEO earlier this year after six years at the head of the alliance. Kibbe will continue to serve as DirectTrust’s Senior Advisor.
“Under David’s leadership, DirectTrust has become a leading force in the drive to improve healthcare information exchange and interoperability,” said Schreiber. “We are thrilled he will continue to be a trusted advisor to our organization through the end of the year.”
EHRA appoints executive committee members from MEDITECH, Epic
The Electronic Health Record Association recently elected executive committee members, including individuals from MEDITECH, Cerner, and Greenway Health leadership.
EHRA is a trade association comprising 34 health IT companies centered on fostering collaboration between vendors to support high quality, efficient patient care delivery.
Newly elected EHRA Executive Committee members include MEDITECH Senior Government Affairs Manager Barbara Hobbs and Nextech Vice President Regulatory Courtney Tesvich.
NextGen Healthcare Vice President of Industry Affairs Cherie Holmes-Henry will serve as the new EHRA Chair. Epic Director Sasha TerMaat has been named Vice Chair of the association.
The executive committee establishes EHRA’s guiding principles and implements strategic plans.
“As we continue to collaborate with stakeholders to reduce provider burden, enhance usability, and move toward full interoperability of EHRs, it is important that the EHRA leadership team bring not only their own expertise but also the experiences and perspectives of their diverse customers to our discussions,” said Holmes-Henry.
Continuing members of the executive committee include Cerner Director of Interoperability Strategy Hans Buitendijk, Greenway Health Corporate Counsel for Government Affairs David Heller, Modernizing Medicine Medical Director of Urology Nadeem Dhanani, MD, and CPSI Evident Director of Government Relations Rick Reeves.
“EHRA leaders engage regularly with government officials, healthcare societies and other stakeholders to ensure that the real-world experiences of EHRA developers and end-users are considered when legislation, regulations, and standards are being discussed,” said TerMaat.
Allscripts Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy Leigh Burchell and Epic President Carl Dvorak will remain ex-officio members of the executive committee.
“I’m so proud to be part of this collaborative organization,” said Holmes-Henry. “It’s a pleasure to work with my talented and creative colleagues in this non-competitive space where we’re able to work together toward our shared goal of enabling EHRs and health IT to improve healthcare for patients and providers.”
EHRA will continue to collaborate to promote health IT and EHR adoption, advance interoperability, and improve EHR usability. EHRA encourages collaboration between EHR vendors and stakeholders for standards development, EHR certification processes, and other EHR-related issues.
