Holzer Health System recently went live with an athenahealth EHR system that includes practice management and patient engagement solutions for improved clinical efficiency.
According to health system officials, the athenahealth EHR will replace an old, less efficient health IT system to enable more advanced patient care delivery.
“As technology in the medical industry continues to evolve, Holzer is proud to offer these advancements for our communities,” said Holzer Health System CEO Michael Canady, MD. “Our organization will continue to provide excellent service, every time for our friends, family members, and loved ones who receive care at our facilities.”

The fully-integrated athenaOne system will help to streamline patient diagnoses, treatment plan administration and management, and prescription ordering for providers.
“Holzer’s new EHR system removes unnecessary processes, allowing providers and clinical team members more quality time with patients and visitors,” stated Holzer Health System CMO Rodney Stout, MD. “We are excited to move forward with this development that will enhance our patients’ and visitors’ experience within our health system.”
Holzer employees have received comprehensive EHR training to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. In some cases, poor EHR training can contribute to billing problems and conflict between hospital management and staff.
As part of the EHR implementation, Holzer patients will gain access to the athenahealth patient portal for online appointment scheduling, prescription refills, and secure provider messaging.
“Holzer Health System is proud to continue growth of our services for our communities, and looks forward to a bright future,” stated Holzer Health System officials.
“Our health system provides unparalleled access to leading technology, right here at home. With all our employees, providers and high-level services, the Holzer family’s mission to achieve patient-centered excellence will continue to thrive,” officials concluded.
United Arab Emirates hospital launches Cerner EHR Implementation
Mubadala Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates recently went live with a Cerner EHR implementation at its Healthpoint facility.
“We are pleased to be one of the first hospitals in the Middle East to upgrade our health information system with the latest Cerner software,” said Healthpoint Abu Dhabi CEO Jose Lopez, MD.
“Our patients will benefit from a seamless experience that starts with their arrival at the check-in desk. The new software will help us access the right information at the right time and supports our physicians in making the appropriate decisions for our patients,” he continued. “Cerner will empower us to provide our community with the health care services they deserve.”
The EHR system — called Sehati — is a Cerner Millenium system already in use at Mubadala’s National Reference Laboratory, Wooridul Spine Center, and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Anatomic Pathology Lab care sites.
Sehati is designed to support high quality patient care delivery across the care continuum and promote care coordination between providers from the hospital to the outpatient clinic.
“Cerner is honored to collaborate with Healthpoint to mark a new transformation in the delivery of advanced health care services in Abu Dhabi,” said Cerner UAE & Kuwait, Middle East, and Africa General Manager Michael Schelper. “This collaboration is a strategic fit to Cerner’s long-term presence in the Middle East region and United Arab Emirates. We look forward to continue working together and planning with the Healthpoint team to achieve their vision.”
The Cerner system will help to streamline clinical documentation, medication prescribing, and health data access for Healthpoint providers.
“By collaborating with Cerner, Healthpoint aims to achieve the UAE Vision 2021 of providing patients with a world-class healthcare system and stimulate the overall development of the sector in the UAE,” said Lopez.
Netsmart Completes Change Healthcare Home and Hospice Solutions Acquisition
Elsewhere in EHR vendor news, Netsmart recently finalized its acquisition of Change Healthcare’s home care and hospice solutions for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition is an effort to strengthen Netsmart’s presence in the long-term and post-acute care services market.
Netsmart acquired Change Healthcare’s Homecare Advisor and Hospice Advisor solutions — formerly known as McKesson Homecare and McKesson Hospice — to optimize provider satisfaction and clinical efficiency to enable clinicians to spend more time focused on patient care delivery.
“Netsmart will immediately begin to integrate the Change Healthcare Homecare Advisor™ and Hospice Advisor solutions into our CareFabric suite of solutions,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine.
“This will allow current Change Healthcare home care and hospice clients to leverage our health information exchange , analytics, referral management and mobility solutions to connect with their health system partners to better coordinate care for the patients they serve,” Valentine continued.
The behavioral health IT company first signed the definitive agreement to acquire Change Healthcare’s home care and hospice health IT solutions in April.
Post-acute and hospice care providers part of the Netsmart network will be able to connect and engage in health data exchange with their health system and primary care referral partners.
Netsmart’s network currently includes more than 600,000 users in more than 25,000 organizations across the country.
