Therapeutic Research Center recently partnered with athenahealth to provide clinicians and users of athenahealth’s Epocrates mobile app with medication therapy clinical resources and advisory articles for better-informed clinical decision-making.
Specifically, athenahealth users will have access to the most recently published issues of Prescriber’s Letter.
athenahealth users will be able to view three of the latest Prescriber’s Letter articles, along with three associated supporting clinical resources that include drug therapy advice on pressing, front-line clinical medication topics.
This newest offering expands on the existing partnership between athenahealth and TRC that began in 2015 when athenahealth began offering mobile app users access to the medication advisory solutions provider’s Natural Medicines database. The database is an evidence-based store of over 160,000 commercial products.

“Prescriber’s Letter is a powerful tool that allows clinicians to be the ‘first to know’ when it comes to unbiased medication therapy updates for their patients,” said TRC Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Wes Crews.
“This partnership puts cutting-edge articles and robust clinical resources for practical, evidence-based medication therapy advice at clinicians’ fingertips, provides insight for changes that will impact practice, and delivers trusted guidance to apply and implement best practices,” he continued.
The articles include hands-on recommendations suited to physicians and advanced practitioners in prescribing roles.
“We’re excited to offer Prescriber’s Letter content through the Epocrates curation and targeting engines, delivering clinically meaningful content directly into the hands of clinicians,” said athenahealth Epocrates Medical Information Executive Director Anne Meneghetti, MD.
Prescriber’s Letter articles are written by clinical pharmacists and peer-reviewed by healthcare industry thought leaders, as well as physicians and advanced practitioners.
athenahealth users will also have access to new and current drug therapy developments, drug class and dosage comparison charts, disease and condition-related charts and guidelines, patient education handouts in English and Spanish, and news on quality measures and practice management.
Enabling athenahealth users to access drug therapy advice, dosage comparison charts, and other information may help to enable better-informed prescribing practices.
In addition to Prescriber’s Letter, TRC also provides online resources including drug comparison charts, patient education handouts, and tutorials for hospital and community clinicians. The medication learning provider also offers online continuing education programs for medication learning, competency, and compliance programs.
athenahealth is currently searching for a new CEO and considering a potential sale of the company after former CEO Jonathan Bush stepped down. Bush resigned as athenahealth faced a $7-billion buyout offer from hedge fund Elliott Management.
athenahealth is not the only health IT company to offer educational resources to its users. In 2017, Epic partnered with Mayo Clinic to offer patients more than 18,000 pages of patient-facing educational resources on more than 4,000 health topics through Epic’s MyChart patient portal.
Patients can look up information regarding symptoms, conditions, and diseases as well as general life stage and healthy living information through MyChart. The patient-facing app offers health information in both English and Spanish through a variety of formats including articles, videos, slideshows, and expert answers.
To ensure accuracy, Mayo Clinic medical experts consistently review and update the evidence-based health information in line with any field developments.
The partnership helps to encourage patients to stay well-informed and engaged in their own health and care management.
Patients with a MyChart portal have access to Mayo Clinic health information from a variety of content areas including problem lists, health maintenance, medications, allergies and results review. Patients can access all Mayo Clinic health information by clicking the HL7 Infobutton or a designated keyword embedded into their chart.
