MEDITECH and eClinicalWorks are launching new EHR product offerings while Cerner is expanding its partnership with MU.
MEDITECH recently announced the launch of its new next-gen, web-based EHR system offering — MEDITECH Expanse.
The EHR platform is an attempt by the health IT company to allow healthcare organizations to further extend their ability to enable care coordination across the care continuum.
“With Expanse, we identified the need for an EHR for the post-Meaningful Use healthcare paradigm,” MEDITECH President and CEO Howard Messing. “Our clinicians deserve an open, dynamic workspace that allows them to connect care the way that works best for them and their patients.”

“We don’t believe this is something that should be exclusive or come at an exorbitant cost,” Messing continued. “This is the future. This is the freedom and usability that everyone in healthcare should be accustomed to.”
The expanse is designed to allow providers to adapt to the increasingly open, virtual healthcare landscape across care settings for more comprehensive patient care delivery.
The EHR offering is also designed to prioritize user satisfaction and physician productivity by reducing the number of time providers need to spend engaging in EHR use.
eclinicalworks Debuts Affordable Acute Care HR System, Revenue Cycle Management
Elsewhere in recent EHR vendor news, eClinicalWorks announced a new acute care EHR system and revenue cycle management solution that will cost healthcare providers $599 per bed per month.
The EHR offering will have no capital cost for licensing. The solution is designed to enable seamless health data exchange between ambulatory and acute care settings through a single, unified EHR system.
“Historically, health systems face large financial barriers in transitioning from their legacy EHRs,” eClinicalWorks co-found and CEO Girish Navani. “We are addressing this by providing a modern, cloud-based platform with no upfront license fees. Hospitals will have no financial barriers to transition to eClinicalWorks.”
Hamilton Healthcare System in Texas will be the first to go live with the system. The 42-bed community hospital will utilize the EHR system for both its inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities. The EHR system dashboard will display clinical information for Hamilton Healthcare’s emergency department, inpatient department, and operating room.
“From a clinical standpoint, a unified EHR allows us to offer safer and more efficient care to our patients,” said Hamilton Healthcare Director of Clinical Informatics Millie Shinn, RN.
“They have designed the Acute Care EHR based upon the guidance of actual clinicians,” she added.
University Of Missouri Health Care Begins Cerner EHR Implementation
Finally, Cerner will begin an EHR implementation at the five hospitals and 50 primary and specialty care clinics part of University of Missouri (MU) Health Care in Columbia, MO.
MU Health Care will integrate Cerner’s registration, scheduling, patient accounting, and practice management solutions and transaction services with its existing Cerner Millenium EHR solution.
Integrating clinical and financial data will assist the academic health center in allowing clinicians and staff to update billing processes throughout a patient’s visit and improve clinical documentation to reduce claims errors.
“Cerner was the clear choice to help us achieve clinical and financial integration throughout our health system and optimize the revenue cycle,” said MU Health Care CEO Jonathan Curtright, CEO. “MU Health Care and Cerner have a long-standing relationship. We share a similar vision of health care for the next five, 10, 20 years and beyond.”
The implementation signals the completion of MU’s full transition to Cerner Millenium through Cerner’s IT Management offering ITWorks. The integrated EHR system will provide clinicians with a single, comprehensive patient health record for improved care coordination.
Previously, MU Healthcare and Cerner partnered to form the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation in an effort to improve and streamline care delivery for residents of Missouri.
“With the implementation of Cerner’s revenue cycle management solutions, MU Health Care is achieving its goal of one integrated health system for its patients,” said Cerner RevWorks Senior Vice President Jeff Hurst.
“We are proud to expand our long-term relationship with MU Health Care, to help them unite clinical and financial data within one patient record to deliver improved outcomes to its community,” concluded Hurst.
