Columbus Regional Health Physicians launched its new Epic EHR at all outpatient locations and physician practices on November 1.
Indiana-based Columbus Regional Health system recently announced the launch of its Epic EHR implementation on November 1, 2017.
The Epic system will provide a unified EHR platform for the more than 20 outpatient locations and practices that are part of Columbus Regional’s network of primary and specialty care physician offices. Collectively, the network of physician offices is referred to as Columbus Regional Health Physicians.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this technology within Columbus Regional Health Physicians,” said Columbus Regional Associate Chief Medical Officer Slade Crowder, MD. “The Epic system will not only advance patient care practices, but also the overall patient experience, with improved access to health information, enhanced patient-provider communication and easy, convenient scheduling options.”

The Epic implementation will also allow patients access to Epic’s patient portal, MyChart. The Epic EHR system will be privatized and secure for each individual Columbus Regional patient. Columbus Regional officials also emphasized the new system will reduce the risk of duplicate patient health records and outdated health data as patients move along the continuum of care.
Columbus Regional stated most patient health records have been converted to transition to the new Epic EHR. However, each patient will be required to sign up to use the MyChart app through their primary or specialty care provider.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is also set to go live with its own Epic EHR on November 2, 2017.
VUMC’s $200 million Epic implementations will replace the health system’s previous McKesson EHR system. Vanderbilt has been working toward the launch for the past two years. So far, VUMC staff members have moved 485,000 patient appointments planned for the next 10 to 12 months into the new Epic system.
Following the launch of the EHR system, VUMC will continue to work with Epic to optimize the system with new capabilities and emerging technologies.
“We have an agreement with Epic to continue to collaborate with them on aspects of their software that we believe we can enhance,” said VUMC Health IT Senior Vice President Kevin Johnson. “We plan to be as innovative and at this point more impactful because anything that we do that improves Epic improves Epic for the entire world people that use Epic.”
