West Tennessee Healthcare’s new CEO James Ross is all set to lay out goals for the non-profit healthcare system. Ross said, ‘That’s to be chosen as the best place to work’.
He added, ‘The best place for physicians, other health care providers to practice, and the best place for patients to come and seek health care’.
West Tennessee Healthcare’s CEO to lay out goals
James Ross was serving as an interim CEO since April 2016, and during a West Tennessee Healthcare’s board of trustees meeting held on May 30, he was unanimously voted as the permanent CEO of the organization.
Ross has worked in various positions with the West Tennessee Healthcare since 32 years. He has joined as a registered nurse in 1985 in the surgical intensive care unit.

Ross said he was not interested in being appointed as the permanent CEO and he had even thought that West Tennessee Healthcare needed someone who has experience dealing with a similar health care system, only until he received a call from one of his friend one night.
‘A friend of mine called me one night, and said, ‘I don’t know what you’re thinking; you’ve been in the organization for 30 years. You have had all of these different experiences. God has really prepared you for this time,’ and (he) quotes scripture out of Luke, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected.’ Then it goes on to say, ‘To whom much is trusted, even more, is expected.’’
Uncertainty with healthcare laws
One challenge that James Ross and West Tennessee Healthcare have to address is how to adapt to all the uncertainties regarding healthcare laws in the U.S.
Ross said, ‘We have to be more fluid in making changes and adapting to things that come our way’. He added, ‘Today’s environment is much more of a consumerism environment, and our ability to adapt to that under the laws that are out there as well as the constraints that we have is huge for us’.
Personal Mission
Ross said that his personal mission statement is to meet the need and make a difference.
Ross said, ‘When I interact (with someone) whether its patients, employees, people outside’. He added, ‘People have needs. They may be unspoken needs. It may be just to listen or encourage, but that’s my personal mission’.
