He’s only been the head of Intermountain Healthcare for a week, but Marc Harrison already has a plan listen, and watch.
For now, that includes keeping an eye on Utah County’s growth, which he predicts will stretch resources. Harrison said as growth occurs, Intermountain Healthcare will look to match services to the community’s health needs.
“That process is ongoing and as the population demands, we will grow along with it,” Harrison said.
But don’t expect any groundbreaking announcements soon. Harrison said it’ll be at least early 2017 before he plans to roll out big initiatives.

Harrison started his third day as president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare on Wednesday after a two-month transition and nationwide search for a new leader. He replaced Charles Sorenson, who retired.
Harrison was previously the chief of international business development for Cleveland Clinic and the CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
There are three Intermountain Healthcare hospitals in Utah County Orem Community Hospital, American Fork Hospital and Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, which is currently undergoing a hospital replacement project.
In his first months as the head of the company, he said he hopes to understand the history and context of the organization and work with the leadership team to develop an assessment of Intermountain Healthcare on how to evolve the company’s strategy.
“We have great people, and I recognize that, and that feels like an awesome responsibility,” Harrison said.
