Cerner Corp. President Zane Burke will join the board of Truman Medical Centers, along with several other Kansas City leaders.
TMC announced that Burke and Missouri Sen. Kiki Curls, D-Kansas City, were inaugurated during a Saturday meeting. Also joining the board are Jackson County Treasurer Marc de Rome and Polsinelli PC attorney Jon Otto.
“I’ve enjoyed working with Truman Medical Centers for the past two decades,” Burke said in a release. “Truman has shown thought leadership and compassion in delivering high-end care to all, and I’m honored and excited to work even closer with them.”
Truman Medical Centers CEO Charlie Shields said Burke’s experience with Cerner could help the health system use technology to support the Kansas City community. In October 2015, the two organizations announced a 10-year strategic partnership, using Cerner’s electronic medical records systems and embedded staff to improve the quality of care.

“TMC has a long history of a solid, supportive and impressive board made up of community and business leaders generous enough to share their busy schedules with us,” Shields said in the release. “The board members joining this month exemplify what has made TMC’s board so successful over the years: bright minds bringing innovative ideas and a passion in diverse fields that translate to health care and lift up our patient population.”
The nonprofit has two acute-care academic hospitals in the area, in addition to a long-term care facility, and a specialist and surgery center. The Kansas City-based academic medical center partners with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine to train future physicians.
