Accessing and keeping track of your health records is not just an issue in Idaho.
The problem exists worldwide.
Groups of hospitals all over that work closely together are realizing the power that comes with being able to readily and quickly exchange and provide health records.
St. Luke’s Magic Valley uses an electronic medical record.

This system differs from the system used at St. Luke’s clinics and emergency rooms, which means they are currently using three different systems.
That is why for the last four years, the entire St. Luke’s health system has been budgeting and preparing for what will be known as My St. Luke’s.
“Instead of having information that’s stored in one electronic medical record in one location and then a different computer system at a different St. Luke’s location, all of that information will be the same record. It will be one record for that one patient,” said Trevor Satterfield, physician leader of St. Luke’s health system.
The new system is set to go live October 1, 2016.
The St. Luke’s health system as a whole is hoping this project will help ensure you, as a patient, know when you come in for medical help, your records are readily available, regardless of where you previously received treatment.
St. Luke’s officials want you to know this new change is not about doctor convenience. It is about being able to better serve people.
“To have that be a seamless process,” Satterfield said. “So if I need care in several locations, it’s not cumbersome for me as a patient to have to see several doctors. It becomes smoother and easier to do that.”
Satterfield said what it all comes down to is one patient, one record.
