CareSource is teaming up with a Cleveland hospital group to better manage health care for its customers.
The Dayton-based medicaid managed care plan company is teaming with MetroHealth, a Cleveland hospital group with 400 physicians and 17 locations in the Cleveland area, with plans to educate and increase participation in coordinated care in the area.
“This partnership with CareSource benefits everyone because more people can stay healthy and out of the hospital,” said Akram Boutros, president and CEO of MetroHealth. “This is a win for patients as well as taxpayers who help fund Ohio’s Medicaid program.”
MetroHealth sees 900,000 visits a year, and 72,000 CareSource members receive primary care from MetroHealth. The partnership is hoped to help the hospital network better manage care of those patients and focus on engaging more patients and collecting more information on their care.

MetroHealth will focus particularly on prenatal care, child well visits, and disease treatments. It’s the latest partnership in the health care industry in Ohio where major companies are partnering to keep costs down, and also an aggressive move by CareSource to ensure its members are accessing primary and preventative care, which keeps costs and emergency room visits down.
“Our agreement with MetroHealth is key in building additional member touch points that can ultimately improve health outcomes,” said Steve Ringel, president of the CareSource Ohio Market. “At CareSource we are committed to improving the health and well-being of our members and MetroHealth, a leader in academic and medical care, is a good resource for implementing this innovative program.”
CareSource, which has 2,000 employees, most of whom work in downtown Dayton, has been making several plays designed around improving the kind of care members receive with a goal on improving their outcomes.
