Hughes, 52, was chief operating officer at St. Joseph for four years before becoming CEO in 2011, according to her biography on the Presence Health website. In September 2013, she was named regional president and CEO, adding St. Mary’s to her role. Previously, she was executive vice president of ambulatory services and managed care at Optima Healthcare in Manchester, N.H., and system vice president for ambulatory services at Loyola University Health System in west suburban Maywood.
In the statement, Presence Health credited Hughes with creating the Presence Neuroscience Institute, which positioned St. Joseph as one of two specialty hubs for the health system’s telestroke program. At St. Mary’s, she established a Heart and Vascular Center and expanded the focus on oncology care, the statement said.
Hughes’ replacement will be announced soon, the statement said.
