The man who has led the seventh largest hospital in Wisconsin will be the the new chief-executive of the Elliot Hospital system, hospital officials announced today.
Jim Woodward, president and chief executive of Meriter Health Services of Madison, Wisc., will take over for long-time Elliot head Doug Dean, who retires at month’s end.
Woodward’s employment was announced at a press conference today. He was not in attendance; Elliot board Chairman Dianne Mercier said he was in Madison announcing his pending departure to the hospital staff.
“Jim has all the skills and experience you wold hope for in a CEO,” Mercier said.
Meriter is much larger than Elliot. It reported $800 million in net patient revenues, compared to $376 million in total revenues for Elliot.
Mercier said Meriter hired Woodward so the hospital could affiliate with a larger organization.
She said he is looking to return to a more community- oriented hospital.
When he starts the job in early August, Woodward will take over the largest health care organization in southern New Hampshire. Its centerpiece is the 296-bed acute care hospital located in east Manchester. But the Elliot system includes a network of 305 primary and specialty-care physicians, a regional trauma center, a visiting nurse association and urgent-care clinics in Londonderry and Manchester.
