Officials at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital will announce plans for a $75 million dollar expansion on Tuesday.
A new, five-story building will be built at the corner of White Avenue and 21st Street, across the street from the current hospital, and will offer 245,000 square feet of new space. It will include a new 44-bed, private room Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a new perioperative surgery center, two levels of parking and enhanced family areas, such as roof-top gardens.
They hope to break ground on the project this summer, and it will take around two years to complete. In addition to the new construction, some facilities in the existing hospital will be upgraded. However, officials said all services will still be available.
According to a press release, the hospital plans to pay for the majority of the $75 million dollar project with internal funds. More than $9 million has been raised from private donors.
