Of the 42 North Texas-area hospitals, just two received a “D” grade for healthcare quality and safety in the Leapfrog Group’s latest report card, released last week. In the organization’s November 2012 report, five North Texas hospitals received “D” or “F” grades.
Compared to the group’s May report, sixteen hospitals slipped in safety ratings, while nine improved on their scores. The biggest movers were Parkland Memorial Hospital and Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton—each fell two grades, from A to C—while Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale also fell from B to D. In better news, Medical Center of Plano went from a C to an A.
The two lowest-scoring hospitals, both receiving D’s, were Texas Regional in Sunnyvale and Texas Hospital for Advanced Medicine, in Dallas.
“As Texas Health carries out our mission of improving the health of the people in the communities we serve, we place a high emphasis on the quality and safety of the care we deliver,” said Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer and senior executive vice president for Texas Health, which placed 11 hospitals in the A range. “This means being transparent and accountable for our quality and safety. We welcome public report cards such as the Leapfrog rankings.”
