Here are the 50 hospitals in America with the most emergency room visits for both admitted patients and not admitted patients. Figures are based on Medicare claims data and the “total days” and “medicare days” figures hospitals provided in their most recent CMS cost reports. Figures are rounded to the nearest hundred. Data was analyzed by the American Hospital Directory.
Editor’s note: Some hospitals file a combined or consolidated CMS cost report that includes information for other facilities on their campus or affiliated hospitals. In those cases, facilities included in the “total ER visits” figure are specified in italicized notes. All total ER visit estimates are calculated by AHA using each hospital’s most recent Medicare data.
