Springfield, MO—Jordan Valley Community Health Center received approval from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to modify its building plan to increase capacity to serve health needs by locating more services in a renovated primary building on its campus at 440 E. Tampa.
In May 2012, Jordan Valley was awarded $5 million in funds for capital development from HHS. Originally, the grant was for construction of a new 30,300 square foot facility located across the street from the existing main building. In July 2012, Jordan Valley purchased unoccupied space adjacent to its building from Greene County.
The recent approval of the building plans will allow for renovating the 20,000 square foot building attached to the south side of the Tampa facility and will add an additional 20,000 square feet to the east of the structure. The newly designed Tampa facility incorporates the property obtained from the County and locates more services under one roof.
“We are pleased to announce that with the purchase of space from Greene County and approval from our grantor we are moving ahead with a revised construction plan that will utilize existing structures and move more services under one roof, which will improve access for patients and increase efficiency for medical and dental staff.
With this building, we’re increasing access to care for our entire community. Jordan Valley’s primary patient population consists of families at or below 200% of the federal poverty level with an emphasis on the uninsured and underinsured as well as Medicaid enrollees.
This building project will allow Jordan Valley to keep pace with emerging community needs and help provide the traditionally underserved with a healthcare home,” Brooks Miller, President and CEO, Jordan Valley Community Health Center, said.
The first phase of the project will be the expanded facility that will include adult primary care, a pain management clinic and an open access urgent care along with pharmacy, lab, and x-ray services.
Upon completion of phase one, the lower level of the existing building at 440 E. Tampa will be remodeled to accommodate oral health services currently being provided in two separate buildings in Springfield under the same roof. The upper level of the same building will provide expanded space for the pediatric and women’s health services. Springfield-based Butler Rosenbury & Partners is the project’s architectural firm.
The total cost is $8,356,000 with $5,000,000 of the cost covered by grant funds from HHS and the balance funded locally.
“We’re proud of this community endeavor. We’re governed by members of the community, and we’re proud to work with local architects and financial institutions as well as area contractors. This is a case of people in the Ozarks conscientiously studying a number of options, looking for community-based solutions, and working together to help build a larger clinic to serve our friends and neighbors in the community with improved access to care,” Miller said.
