Kaleida Health received final approval this week from the State Department of Health to proceed with its John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital project.
The approval came Thursday from the Public Health and Health Planning Council and allow planning for construction, financing and operations to continue.
Plans call for opening a 12-story hospital in early 2016 on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, which would take the place of the existing Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo facility on Bryant Street. The $220 million construction project also includes $17 million in new equipment.
The new hospital will include pediatric medical subspecialists, the region’s largest neonatal intensive care unit, a Regional Pediatric Trauma Center and pediatric neurosurgery; as well as a Women’s Pavilion connected by bridge to the adult surgical floor of the Buffalo General Medical Center; and a pediatric oncology unit in collaboration with Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
