Health Management Associates Inc., a Naples-based hospital company, disclosed today that it received a subpoena from the Securities and Exchange Commission on April 25, requesting documents “related to accounts receivable, billing write-downs, contractual adjustments, reserves for doubtful accounts, accounts receivable aging, and revenue from Medicare, Medicaid and from privately insured or uninsured patients,” according to a news release.
The company said it is cooperating with the investigation.
“Health Management is unable to determine the potential impact, if any, of this investigation,” the release said.
Calls to the company’s executive offices weren’t immediately returned.
HMA operates 71 hospitals in 15 states, including 23 hospitals in Florida. In Southwest Florida, HMA operates Lehigh Regional Medical Center in Lehigh Acres; Charlotte Regional Medical Center and the Peace River Regional Medical Center in Charlotte County; and two Physicians Regional Hospital campuses in Collier County.
