More than 600 hospitals attained and sustained high-levels of performance in using evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes, according to a recent report from The Joint Commission.
These hospitals received “top performer” designation from the Joint Commission based on performance with key accountability measures. Areas of focus include heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma care, inpatient psychiatric services, venous thromboembolism (VTE), and stroke care. Each top performing hospital met two 95 percent performance thresholds on 2011 accountability measure data.
The list of top performers increased by more than 50 percent since its debut last year. According to Joint Commission president Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., “The significant increase in the number of hospitals achieving Top Performers status demonstrates that these organizations are intently focused on delivering high quality care within their communities.”
In addition to revealing the top performers, The Joint Commission report also summarizes the performance of more than 3,300 Joint Commission accredited hospitals throughout the United States.
