Beacon Health Options to Expand Presence in Walmart

Share:

February 7, 2020

In a continued effort to make healthcare more affordable and accessible, Beacon Health Options has partnered with Walmart on the opening of their second Walmart Health center, located in Calhoun, GA.

Beacon Care Services, a subsidiary of Beacon Health Options, will provide behavioral and mental health care, including individual, couples, group and family counseling to consumers, aged 6 and up, to address mild-to-moderate mental health issues.

While the number of U.S. adults with mental illness continues to increase, touching nearly 45 million adults, there is a severe shortage of psychiatrists and behavioral health providers. In fact, only 26 percent of the need for mental health professionals is met in the United States, and 77 percent of U.S. counties have severe shortages of psychiatrist and behavioral health providers. At Beacon, we feel the solution is to increase the amount of care provided through other modalities and settings, such as retail outlets, telehealth and online.

Convenience drives access to services

This model supports Beacon’s goal of increasing access to behavioral health care services. Communities across the country need more access to mental and behavioral health services as there are not enough places where people can get the help they need. By locating within a Walmart store, we provide convenience since 90 percent of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart.

Our clinicians offer counseling sessions to treat common behavioral and mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, grief and relationship issues. As part of the therapy, clinicians develop individualized treatment plans to help support a patient’s recovery process. These plans and therapy sessions are person-centered, recovery-oriented, culturally-competent and address personalized goals and objectives.

The Walmart Health center will be operated by qualified medical professionals, including behavioral health providers, physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, and optometrists. Walmart Care Hosts and Community Health Workers onsite will help customers navigate their visit, understand resources and be a familiar presence for regular visits.

Beacon is proud to partner with Walmart by improving access to care and meeting consumers where they are. Our approach of integrating social, behavioral and physical health solutions, supported by multi-modal touchpoints, engages consumers to improve their whole health while improving their experience and driving positive outcomes.

We look forward to continuing to expand the depth and breadth of our behavioral health services in 2020 through this innovative partnership with Walmart.
