NextGen Healthcare is releasing a new population health analytics platform to enable clients to measure the value of care for patients.
In the past, quality reporting has focused on the quality of care or the cost of care, not both metrics in a single view, according to the vendor, a vendor of electronic health records for ambulatory care physician practices.
The new product, called Quality/Cost Fusion, measures value as the risk-adjusted summation of cost and quality by combining clinical and adjudicated claims data to identify best practices while also identifying providers who may benefit from more training and support.
“Our goal is to deliver high value at affordable costs for every patient in our practice,” says Verlin Janzen, MD, chief medical officer at Hutchinson Clinic in Hutchinson, Kan., who’s also responsible for medical informatics and population health. “Am I creating more value for my patient? Our medical and financial leaders frequently share data with providers to address this question. These analytics will be transformational.”
The population health platform collects multiple data sources that include clinical, health information exchange and financial data; adjudicated claims and patient-derived historical data to bring actionable insights to the point of care to support the transition from volume to value.
Healthcare organizations need to invest in such platforms and advanced analytics to deliver more effective care and consumer engagement, says Kate McCarthy, a senior analyst at Forrester Research. “Value-based care is ultimately about getting patients the right care, at the right time and in the right setting to deliver high-quality and cost-effective care,” she adds.
Existing NextGen clients have automatically been given access to the new platform.
