A Richmond-based data analytics firm that helps health care providers improve clinical outcomes has been acquired by a local technology business with plans to expand its services.
EnterBridge Technologies Inc bought SMA Informatics Partners LLC and its subsidiaries. EnterBridge has combined them to create a business named New Health Analytics LLC.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal, which was completed Feb. 14, was announced Tuesday.
SMA was founded in 2008 by entrepreneur Warren T. Brennan and Louis F. Rossiter, a health care economist and Virginia’s former secretary of Health and Human Resources under Gov. Jim Gilmore.

The company provides data collection and data analysis that helps hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and physician practices compare their quality of care to competitors and improve clinical outcomes. It has customers in 32 states.
EnterBridge, a Henrico County-based firm founded by entrepreneurs Erik Bleyl and Todd Nuckols in 2002, helps companies use data to drive business and improve results. The acquisition by EnterBridge combines health care data analysis with an ability to better utilize it through technology, Rossiter said.
“Enterbridge is a technology company and we are health care content and data company, so it’s a wonderful combination” Rossiter said. “What we do increasingly depends upon user experience. Electronic medical records have become so prominent for providers.”
Brennan said the company’s data analysis “saves our customers millions of dollars and reduces preventable readmissions.”
Rossiter, who was a faculty member in VCU’s Department of Health Administration for 22 years, said he and Brennan met when Brennan was in the school’s graduate program.
Rossiter and Brennan will remain active with the company, which has moved its office from the Virginia Bio+Tech Park in downtown Richmond to the EnterBridge office in western Henrico. New Health Analytics has 10 staff members.
Nuckols has become CEO of New Health Analytics. Nuckols said the acquisition adds many clients for EnterBridge in the health care sector, where it did not have a presence before, and he expects the company to see growth.
“We are continuing their services uninterrupted, and this allows us to add to our analytic and technology talent,” said Nuckols, who also is founder and executive director of the local startup business accelerator Lighthouse Labs.
