Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health will cut 52 jobs across its information technology subsidiary, including at least a few jobs in the region, according to a media report.
Twenty three people are to be laid off at its Pittsburgh’s offices; PennLive.com reported that 21 jobs were to be eliminated at Highmark Health Solutions’ Cumberland County facility, along with an unspecified amount in West Virginia and Delaware. A Highmark spokesman said the layoffs were made “in an ongoing effort to streamline operations and find efficiencies within the company.”
The affected employees also can apply for jobs elsewhere at Highmark, and those with at least one year on the job will get severance. There are 1,000 open jobs posted throughout Highmark.
HM Health Solutions is a technology company to “enable health plans to achieve top-line revenue growth, reduce costs, and gain economies of scale,” according to its website. It has hired 145 people since January, according to a spokesman.
In a report released last week by Highmark, HM Health Solutions’ revenue jumped 34 percent to $720 million in the fiscal year just concluded. It announced Jan. 3 that it had acquired Incepture Print Solutions, a printing and fulfillment company, based in north Florida.
In February 2015, HM Health Solutions laid off 66 employees in the three-state region.
