Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has promoted three company veterans to new positions, including naming a new chief operating officer.
Tim Vines, who has worked with Blue Cross for 23 years, was named executive vice president and COO for the insurer, which is the state’s largest health insurance provider.
Vines most recently served as chief administrative officer, where he was responsible for all aspects of enterprise resources, information technology, legal services and finance. He also previously held a number of other leadership positions at the company. Additionally, he serves as chair of the Samford University Board of Trustees.
Sheila Herringdon was named vice president of business development. In her new role, she will oversee Blue Cross’ Preferred Care Services subsidiary activity, including ongoing operations and future acquisitions. She has been with the company more than 19 years, previously serving as director of quality, risk and plan performance and as internal audit director and corporate compliance officer.
Mary Smith has been named vice president, treasury operations. She will continue to oversee investment strategy and manage the company’s financial risk. She joined Blue Cross in 1986 as an investment analyst and most recently served as director of treasury operations.
