Cigna (NYSE:CI), a global health service leader, is proud to be among the companies who scored highly on the first annual Disability Equality IndexSM (DEISM). The inaugural survey measures a broad range of workplace, supply chain and marketplace activities and was created by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the US Business Leadership Network® (USBLN®). Earlier this year, 80 Fortune 1000 companies completed the DEI, which is a national, transparent benchmarking tool that offers businesses an objective assessment of their overall disability inclusion policies and practices.
“With a score of 90, Cigna is proud of our disability practices, and appreciates this meaningful recognition that we’re on the right track with our diversity strategy. At the same time, the survey inspires us to continuously improve and to remember that our work is never finished,” said Rosanna Durruthy, Cigna’s chief diversity officer.
An official list of DEI top-scoring leaders can be accessed on the DEI website at.
The survey follows the announcement earlier this month of Cigna’s role as an official tour sponsor for America’s Disability Rights Museum on Wheels (DRMW), which kicked off a cross-country journey in Charlotte, N.C. The DRMW is an accessible self-contained motor vehicle that features interactive learning opportunities and emerging technologies to assist those with disabilities. The DRMW provides an unusual opportunity for communities to learn the history of the disability rights movement and the technological innovations made possible as a result of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
“Supporting America’s Disability Rights Museum on Wheels was important to Cigna as a way to highlight – to our employees, our clients and our communities – the importance of helping people with different abilities become and remain productive contributors to the workforce,” said Mark Boxer, Cigna’s global chief information officer and executive champion of Cigna’s People with Different Abilities Colleague Resource Group (CRG), which was instrumental in securing Cigna’s support for the country’s first disability rights mobile museum. Cigna’s CRGs are employee-led groups that help Cigna better connect with and support diverse communities.
