One of the state’s largest health care insurers and Yale New Haven Health System have reached a new, multi-year agreement.
The agreement between Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Yale New Haven Health, announced late Friday, means individuals insured by Anthem will continue to have access to Yale New Haven Health’s doctors and medical facilities at in-network rates.
Terms of the new deal were not released. Anthem and Yale New Haven Health signed their last agreement in March 2018.
Yale New Haven Health has five hospitals: Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial in New London, Westerly in Rhode Island and Yale New Haven. The health system also includes several specialty networks and Northeast Medical Group, a nonprofit medical foundation with several hundred community-based and hospital-employed physicians.
Jill Hummel, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut, said the agreement “protects affordability for consumers and ensures our members continue to have access to quality care at Yale New Haven Health System.”
Deremius Williams, vice president of Payer Strategy & Innovation at Yale New Haven Health, said in a written statement that “in the midst of an international pandemic, stability of access to healthcare services becomes even more essential.”
Yale New Haven Health officials were not immediately available Monday to answer further questions about the agreement.
