The Health Care Cost Institute, a nonprofit organization sharing and analyzing unidentified claims datasets, partnered with the intelligence arm of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, the companies said Nov. 12.
Under the multiyear partnership, Blue Health Intelligence will share medical and pharmacy claims data from more than 190 million Americans with the HCCI. The HCCI will use the expanded data to help employers, federal officials and the public better understand healthcare cost trends.
The partnership comes after UnitedHealthcare stopped sharing data with the HCCI. When the decision was announced in January, a spokesperson told Becker’s that ongoing evaluation of its research-focused partnerships influenced the decision.
