Tupelo-based North Mississippi Health Services is set to go out of network with Humana’s Medicare Advantage plans Jan. 1, according to the Daily Journal.
The health system began notifying patients about the change in October. North Mississippi Health Services, the parent company of various North Mississippi Medical Center hospitals, said it was allocating too many resources to appealing denials associated with Humana’s MA plans.
In a statement to the Daily Journal, the hospital said: “It is very important that the Humana [MA] members understand that the obligation for providing any requested information to Humana will be the responsibility of the member. NMHS will no longer be in a position to assist in this documentation requirement process.”
Should the contract terminate, Humana MA members will still be able to access NMHS’ emergency care services, and some 4,600 members may be eligible to continue ongoing care.
