Fishersville, Va.-based Augusta Health’s in-network contract with Anthem expired Dec. 31, according to NBC 29.
As a result, Anthem policyholders may pay out-of-network prices to access Augusta Health facilities. If a resolution is not reached by Jan. 31, Augusta Health physicians will also be considered out-of-network for Anthem members.
Emergency care and Medicare patients are not affected by the contract dissolution.
Augusta Health first notified Anthem it planned to terminate their contract in early October. While the two sides made some headway on smaller agreement terms since then, “a couple of big issues” persisted, Augusta Health Vice President and CFO John Katsianis told the News Leader in December. At the time, the parties’ rate negotiations were still “double digits” apart.
