Humana Inc. and Revon Systems Inc., a Crestwood-based health technology startup, will team up to help a few Louisville seniors breathe a little easier as part of Humana’s Bold Goal.
The companies will launch a market-wide pilot program for select local seniors on Humana’s Medicare Advantage plans who have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. COPD is chronic lung condition that is the result of damage to lungs.
Revon develops software and devices that help people and care providers track COPD signs and symptoms. The data that Revon’s products gather help providers adjust treatment to give patients the right type of care.
For the Bold Goal pilot, Revon will volunteer its Revon Smart Symptom Tracker and its free Breathe COPD Resource Kit, according to a news release.
The symptom tracker is a mobile application that patients use to record symptoms. The app gives feedback on what type of care they might need, based on their symptoms and other health history they put into the app. The resource kit contains a Bluetooth-connected pulse oximeter and thermometer to track other symptoms.
Louisville-based Humana has selected Louisville to participate in its Bold Goal effort, which as the name suggests has the goal of increasing the number of healthy days communities experience.
“We know that COPD can be a challenge for patients to manage, and we hope that Revon’s Smart Symptom Tracker technology will result in more Healthy Days for the participating members,” Ted Smith, Revon CEO, said in the release.
The Bold Goal effort uses a specialized survey to track people’s healthy and unhealthy days. Earlier in the year, Humana announced that, on average, participants in Bold Goal cities reduced the number of unhealthy days by 2 percent from 2015 to 2016. In Louisville, the number of unhealthy days participants reported increased by 2.2 percent.
