A major health insurer is partnering with the University of Virginia Health System to offer a low-cost plan for qualifying central Virginians on Medicare.
Aetna announced on Wednesday, October 25, that it has partnered with UVA Health to provide a Medicare Advantage Plan to qualifying families in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties.
The plan has a $29 monthly premium and allows those enrolled access to all UVA Health services.
This plan covers no-cost primary care visits as well as lab services and routine eye exams for qualifying Medicare members.
“We hope it checks a lot of boxes for folks; first they know they can come here and they’ll be seeing UVA care providers, then also being able to get that care here at UVA – at we think a pretty low cost – so hopefully both high-quality excellent care at a reasonable price,” says Eric Swensen of the UVA Health System.
Medicare beneficiaries in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, and Nelson counties are all eligible for this plan.
The plan will go into effect January 2018 and enrollment is currently open.
Aetna today announced a new Aetna Medicare Advantage plan with a $29 monthly plan premium. This plan is available for Medicare beneficiaries in Charlottesville as well as Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison and Nelson counties.
The Aetna Medicare UVA Health System Prime Plan provides access to University of Virginia Health System’s network, physicians and other health care providers at in-network rates.
Enrolled Medicare Advantage patients will experience more coordinated care. They’ll benefit from improved information flow to the UVA physicians providing care. This is particularly helpful for patients with chronic or complex health needs. Aetna nurse case managers will assist UVA care providers with care coordination, outreach and follow-up services.
Plan highlights include a $0 copay for primary care physician office visits, lab services and routine vision and eye exams, along with $0 medical and pharmacy annual deductibles.

This plan will be available in Charlottesville as well as Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison and Nelson counties during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period this fall with an effective date of January 1, 2018.
