Former Greenville Health System CEO Mike Riordan has been named to Modern Healthcare’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.
According to a press release, the list recognizes individuals in the health care industry for their leadership and impact as determined by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare magazine.
Riordan currently serves as CEO of the Strategic Coordinating Organization, which oversees GHS, and will transition to the role of co-CEO of a new, not-for-profit company formed in partnership with Palmetto Health.
If the FTC approves the partnership, the company will be one of the 50 largest health systems in the United States and serve about one-third of South Carolina’s Medicaid population and provide hundreds of millions of dollars in charity and uncompensated care, according to Riordan.
Previously, Riordan was CEO of GHS for 10 years. Under his leadership, GHS became one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the region with eight medical campuses, nearly 15,000 employees and operating revenues of approximately $2 billion.
Riordan, who earned a master’s degree in health systems from the Georgia Institute of Technology, served as CEO of the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System and senior associate hospital administrator for Emory University Hospital in Atlanta before joining GHS.
He currently serves on the boards of the Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, and Health Science South Carolina.
“I am grateful to be named to this list as it recognizes GHS’s vision to transform health care for the benefit of the people and communities we serve,” said Riordan.
