CVS Health reports that it plans to expand its Transform Diabetes Care program to include four more disease states. By midsummer 2019, the initiative is expected to also include asthma, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and depression. The program, launched in late 2016, aims to reduce pharmacy costs through aggressive trend management and lower medical costs by improving medication adherence, blood glucose control, and lifestyle management. “We’ve been talking for many years about the value of adherence,” said Chief Operating Officer Jon Roberts during a recent conference call.
The Transform Diabetes Care effort has been welcomed by customers trying to limit costs, he said. “It is positioning us as a partner to not only provide pharmacy services but also help manage the overall health care costs for those clients,” according to Roberts. He added that the program increases market share for the company, as participants must be in one of its channels to benefit. “So I do think there is share shift. There will be share shift that comes as clients adopt these programs,” he said.
