Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama has some of the lowest premiums in the nation for family and individual policies offered by employers, according to a federal survey.
The 2016 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey collected information on policies in all states. For family policies, Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama had the lowest premiums. For individual policies, the survey found the lowest premiums in Arkansas, Nevada and Alabama.
The survey found the highest family premiums in Alaska, Wyoming and New York and the highest individual premiums in Alaska, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
Premiums have been below the national average for Blue Cross Blue Shield members in Alabama from 2011 and 2016, according to a press release. The survey covered policies offered through the workplace, not those offered on exchanges set up under Obamacare. Most individuals and families with health insurance receive coverage through the workplace.
“We have worked hard to earn the trust and confidence of the 2.1 million Alabamians we cover in our state by providing the highest quality coverage at competitive prices,” said Terry Kellogg, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama in a statement. “We never lose sight of our customers and are grateful they continue to choose us to provide their healthcare coverage.”
