This event is in conjunction with the 2017 Annual Conference and the National Latino Family Expo. It will be hosted at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The NCLR Health Summit is one of the most premier events that bring together community advocates, academic, government, corporate, nonprofit professionals and NCLR affiliates during the 3 extraordinary days of the event. Here are 3 trends to watch for at the NCLR Health Summit.
Trends at NCLR Health Summit
- Latino Health Trends, Geo-Mapping, and Hotspotting
One of the sessions that are going to take place during the NCLR Health Summit is about Latino health trends. Speakers will talk about hotspotting and Geo-mapping which provide a snapshot of how health is affected by several external factors such the place we live, learn, work, and play. This information also gives us an insight of how we bring change in the communities, to improve health. However, the efforts to bring such change are huge because the communities vary widely.
During this session, look for the interactive geo-mapping tools and models in data collection that reveal the potential hot spots. These tools and models also identify the Latino health trends based on key social determinants of health. You can also learn how to activate local resources and partners using data to influence better health and health care outcomes in your communities.
- Latino Children and Families Health
The NCLR Health Summit focuses on the health of Latino families. The speakers at the summit will reveal the ground realities of health issues faced by Latino families and children. One of the sessions will specifically talk about the impact of child adverse events among Latino children and families.
Latino children’s health is often affected due to adversity and incidents of trauma. Events such as family separation due to migration or raids, violence, or poverty affect children’s developing brains and immune systems. These children are therefore at a greater risk of developing adverse health behaviors as adults. Such events not only affect their physical health but also majorly affects their mental health.
During this session, you can explore the complexities and effects of the current political and cultural environment on the emotional well-being of the Latino children and families. The session will also identify the protective and risk factors. The strategies that address the adverse childhood experiences to promote and foster resilient will also be discussed during the session.
- National Latino Family Expo
The NCLR National Latino Family Expo is one of the largest events in the country. The event focuses on providing resources and family-focused activities for the Latino community.
