Thomas J. Grote, a veteran leader at Aetna has been named as the CEO for Banner and Aetna’s jointly owned health plan. Banner and Aetna’s joint venture was announced last October.
Dan Finke, senior vice president of network and clinical services for Aetna says,
‘I congratulate Tom for being named CEO of the Banner And Aetna’s joint venture,’ he added, ‘I am confident that Tom’s experience, leadership, and vision will help make this new health plan thrive for years to come.”
Banner And Aetna’s Joint Venture
The jointly owned health plan would combine Banner’s fully integrated care teams and care management capabilities with Aetna’s health plan expertise and analytical insights. The aim of Banner and Aetna’s joint venture is to:
• Encourage better health
• Improve care coordination and clinical effectiveness
• Upsurge patient access to their own health information.
The common goal for Banner and Aetna’s joint venture is to make health care simpler and health records more accessible. The Banner and Aetna’s joint venture will offer employer-based health plans in Arizona’s Maricopa and Pinal countries starting Jan. 1.
About Thomas J. Grote
Grote joined Aetna in 1987 as an employee benefits representative. He held a variety of sales and management roles, like the president of Aetna’s Capitol Market, which includes Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. In the year 2012, he led the team that created Aetna’s first joint venture partnership, with Innovation Health, a leading health system in Northern Virginia. Grote also served as president for Aetna’s Arizona and New Mexico markets.Grote received a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from the University of Notre Dame. He has also received the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation.

Grote Played A Key Role In Banner And Aetna’s Joint Venture
As mentioned very recently, Grote served as president for Aetna’s Arizona and New Mexico markets. In this role, he played a critical part in structuring Aetna’s relationship with Banner and helping to construct the joint venture.
Grote will be assuming his new role immediately and will report directly to the Banner And Aetna’s joint venture board of directors. Banner and Aetna have very recently obtained the necessary insurance licenses from the applicable Arizona regulators for the jointly owned health plan.
