The recent victory of Trumpcare bill, when it got passed the House, was celebrated big time by the AHCA bill supporters. Even President Donald Trump who leads this new act, was happy to see it getting moved to the Senate. All the supporters are certain that the Obamacare or the ACA bill will be replaced by the Trumpcare bill. However, it seems the Trumpcare or AHCA bill will have a difficult time for getting the approval from the Senate.
The journey towards goal isn’t easy for Trumpcare bill
Despite this victory, the journey of AHCA bill till the President’s desk will not be easy. The healthcare policy experts say that the AHCA bill that got passed by the House on a very thin margin, will face an uphill battle on its journey to the president’s desk.
Julius Hobson, a healthcare lobbyist and attorney with the Washington, D.C., law firm Polsinelli says,
“It’s very clear that what passed the House is not going to pass the Senate.”
According to these experts, the Trumpcare bill has several flaws. Some of these are listed by the healthcare policy experts:
• The amendments in the Trumpcare bill may not comply with the Senate’s Byrd Rule. This rule governs what can be included in a budget reconciliation measure.
• It is also suggested by the members of the Senate that they are going to make the amendments from scratch rather than take up the House version of the bill.
• The policies the Trumpcare bill has for Medicaid might create major problem in the Senate than it was in the House.
Hobson further added to this,
“I’ve talked to a couple of key senators on this, and to the last one, they said, ‘we will definitely have amendments,’ sort of laughing, as if to say, you know, ‘we’re not taking up that crap.’”
Sally Pipes, president and CEO of the right-leaning Pacific Research Institute echoed Hobson’s thoughts. She said,
“I think that it could be changed significantly at the Senate level.”
She further said that the conservative senators such as Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz might prove difficult to win over.
