Indian River Medical Center announced Monday it will be an out-of-network provider for those insured by Aetna health insurance plans effective May 23 unless a new contract between the companies is reached.
“We will continue providing the exceptional, patient-centered, evidence-based healthcare that Aetna members have received at IRMC for years,” Jeffrey L. Susi, president/CEO of IRMC, said in a news release. “IRMC is doing everything possible to reach an agreement with Aetna before May 23.”
According to the release, in-network coverage will continue beyond May 23 for Aetna members actively in treatment at IRMC or for patients with scheduled treatment that already has been approved by IRMC and Aetna. In a medical emergency, patients should go to their nearest emergency room regardless of their insurance plan, the release states.
