Carla Martin, vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, has been elected to the board of directors for Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, according to James V. Kelley, chairman of the board.
“Carla Martin is well known for her energy and leadership, in business, in the community and in education, and we are excited to welcome her insights to our board,” said Curtis Barnett, president and chief executive officer of Arkansas Blue Cross.
Martin served as dean of the UAPB School of Business from 2009 to 2014, before taking the vice chancellor position. During her time as dean, Martin secured the business school’s first-time accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, as well as a grant from the Fulbright Foundation for a Fulbright foreign language teacher.
Prior to being named dean of the School of Business, Martin worked for Walmart Stores, Inc. in Bentonville as one of four real estate transactions managers, and later as senior manager of supplier diversity. She also practiced law at Brown & McKissic in Pine Bluff. Martin has been recognized as one of the 40 under 40 business leaders by Arkansas Business. Martin has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UAPB and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville School of Law.
