Eric Palmer, chief financial officer for several Cigna divsions, will be promoted to chief financial officer for the whole company this summer, when Tom McCarthy retires.
Palmer, who has been with Cigna 20 years, is chief financial officer for Cigna-HealthSpring, global health, employer-based health care, group and supplemental insurance businesses.
McCarthy became executive vice president and chief financial officer in 2013. He has worked 33 years at Cigna.
Cigna also announced other promotions to and role changes on the executive leadership team Thursday:
•Matthew Manders, who has been president of U.S. Commercial Markets, will fill a new position as president of Government & Individual Programs and Group Insurance. He will be responsible for Cigna’s Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription plans; individual insurance; group insurance and Care Allies and an information technology and analytics division that helps providers adjust to value-based contracting.
•Christopher Hocevar will be president of Strategy, Segments and Solutions. He now leads the company’s pharmacy benefits management business as well as health insurance plans, called “Select Segment,” for companies with fewer than 250 employees. He has worked at Cigna for 14 years.
•Michael Triplett will become president of U.S. Markets. Triplett has been leading the Regional Market Segment, serving companies with 251 to 5,000 employees. He has been with Cigna 18 years.
•Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Bacus, who was already a member of the executive leadership team, will also assume responsibility for the U.S. customer service operation.
