Bloomfield health insurer Cigna is rolling out an educational game that uses Microsoft augmented-reality HoloLens headsets to teach users about body mass index and other health metrics.
BioBall, which Cigna said it’s patenting, is a handheld monitor and game controller that measures users’ BMI and heart-rate while they play a game on a screen in front of them.
A video of the game, which adjusts its speed to users’ heart rates, can be seen here.
At the end of the minute-long game, users can privately view their BMI and other health data on the HoloLens.
Cigna said BMI and blood pressure are tied to preventable and costly chronic diseases. It hopes BioBall will be a way to teach more people about health metrics.
“We want people to know about their health risks, and we believe BioBall and its interactivity get people excited about learning their numbers,” Stephen Cassell, Cigna’s chief brand officer, said in a statement.
Cigna, which administers many large-group employer plans in Connecticut, said employers will be able to request the BioBall game for onsite events.
