Amid the changing health care landscape, Eagan-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has found that millennials are more anxious about health insurance than older Minnesotans.
A new Blue Cross survey found that roughly 1 in 5 millennials -people between 18 and 34 years old consider health insurance to be a “significant source of anxiety.”
Blue Cross also found that while most millennials understood online shorthand such as LOL for “laugh out loud,” they were less likely to be familiar with health care-related acronyms such as “PPO,” which stands for “preferred provider organization.”
Experience makes a difference when trying to sort through health care jargon and paperwork. Blue Cross found that the majority of seniors open, review and understand explanation of benefits forms when they arrive in the mail.
The Blue Cross survey was conducted online in October 2016, based on responses from 500 adults. The poll included responses from 250 males and 250 females.
The survey comes at a time when national health care policy is being debated on a daily basis.
Last week, MNsure announced that 117,654 Minnesotans enrolled in private plans on the individual insurance market. Total private enrollments were a new record for MNsure, a health insurance exchange operated by the state of Minnesota.
