Enrollment in Michigan’s Health Insurance Marketplace totaled 66,100 people in November, the first month of open enrollment for 2017, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The deadline for enrolling for January 2017 coverage is Dec. 15, but people can sign up through Jan. 31, 2017, for coverage for February through December 2017.
Nationally, November enrollment in plans offered through the HealthCare.gov platform outpaced last year.
More than 2.1 million people signed up for health insurance plans through the website during November. That national total included 514,580 people in Florida, 220,379 in Texas, 134,049 in North Carolina, 102,110 in Pennsylvania, 92,136 in Virginia, 68,192 in Illinois and 65,215 in New Jersey.
Some plans are priced at less than $75 per month in premiums, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said in a release.
Nationally, 80 percent of people who buy health insurance through HealthCare.gov qualify for financial help to make their monthly premiums more affordable, the release said. Plan offerings change from year to year. So if you bought insurance through the online exchange last year, you may find a better deal this year with a different plan.
