The Peoples Clinic for better Health of Port Huron, 3111 Electric Ave., is among 50 “safety net” clinics statewide that have received grants up to $25,000 from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
The clinics serve low-income people without insurance.
According to a new release from Blue Cross Blue Shield, the 50 clinics will share $740,000 in grants to expand access to dental and medical care.
The Caring Heart HEalth Clinic in Marlette also received a grant.
Five federally qualified health centers will share about $370,000 to build their patient capacity.
The health centers include the MyCare Health Center in Clinton Township, which received $50,000 to hire a care coordinator to help patients enrolled in the medication assisted treatment program for substance use disorder. The coordinator also will help other patients with complex health needs.
Other centers are in Detroit, Jackson, Muskegon and Onaway.
