Just over two weeks before the start of a benefits enrollment season that will see upwards of 12 million people go online to sign-up for or renew their health insurance, Healthcare.gov is looking for a new permanent chief information officer.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that oversees Healthcare.gov, has posted the job opening online at USAJobs.com and elsewhere.
The opening for a replacement CIO came along when the former top technology manager overseeing Healthcare.gov and other Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services information technology programs, David Nelson, left in August to take over as CIO of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The job of CIO at Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, is a big one. At Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the CIO oversees Healthcare.gov, which operates on an annual budget of about $2 billion, and the information management systems that support Medicare, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The CIO also is in charge of managing over 420 staff members and 200 information technology contracts, according to Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The agency has yet to say when it expects to name a full-time CIO, but in the interim the agency has named George Hoffmann as acting director of its office of enterprise information. Hoffmann joined Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, in January as deputy director, office of technology solutions, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The job as the top technology manager at Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services pays an annual salary that ranges from $123,175 to $185,100, according to the help wanted posting. The job also may include a top secret security clearance. The position requires the CIO to be in charge of implementing the agency’s business and policy goals, oversee all technology systems, and work with other government and non-government organizations on further developing healthcare information technology standards and overseeing data security.
