A threat written in a restroom at the Humana building downtown prompted some employees to leave work and head home.
The threat, discovered at the Humana Waterside Building off East Main Street may have something to do with the gay pride festivities planned for this weekend.
An employee said the company acknowledged there was some sort of threat written in a restroom on the fourth floor. The company did not tell them what the threat said, but did offer them paid time off if they wanted to leave for the day, the employee said.
They did hire extra security for the day, the company said. For some, it just wasn’t enough.
“I decided to leave because I didn’t feel safe because of everything going on in the world, Orlando, I had to go. I had to leave. I have a little baby to take care of,” Jasmein Offutt, a Humana employee, said.
At this time Humana says they are still investigating the origin of the threat in accordance to their “see something, say something” policy. They would not elaborate on what the specific threat said.
The US Attorney for the Western District, John E. Kuhn, said the threat specifically talked about gay pride festivities for this weekend.
He said the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating the threat. Kuhn also said it was written in a restroom on the fourth floor.
So far, there has been no word on who may have written the graffiti.
Kuhn said the threat doesn’t seem to be real.
“At this point I have talked to the FBI about this incident and they have told me that there are specific, credible threats of any violence being carried out,” he said.
