2015 was the second full year of Obamacare coverage, and by the end of the year, only 9.1% of Americans lacked insurance.
That’s still 28.6 million people without healthcare, but it’s 7.4 million fewer than at the end of 2014. According to the CDC, 16.2 million people have moved out of the “uninsured” category since the end of 2013.
States that have accepted the Medicaid expansion have a lower uninsured rate than those that haven’t, and states with private exchanges have lower rates than those that use HealthCare.gov.
By the way, Congress is still trying to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. Presidential candidate Donald Trump has said he will, too. On the other side of the aisle, Hillary Clinton intends to build on Obamacare, and Bernie Sanders wants to create a single payer system.
