Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has promoted one of its top executives to chief operating officer, it announced Friday.
Horizon said Kevin Conlin, executive vice president for health care management, will now serve as EVP and COO, effective April 1. In his new role, he will be responsible for directing and managing all of Horizon’s business activities, the health insurer said.
“Kevin has been the driving force behind Horizon’s efforts to improve the quality and the value of health care for our 3.8 million members,” Chairman and CEO Robert Marino said in a prepared statement. “In his new position, Kevin will accelerate Horizon’s goal to change the way health care is delivered and financed in New Jersey by integrating this mission into all of the company’s business functions.”
Conlin joined Horizon, the state’s largest health insurer, in 2012. In recent months, he has been one of the faces of the company’s controversial OMNIA tiered health plan.
“Kevin’s past experience, positive relationships with providers in New Jersey and in-depth health care experience will enable him to drive operational excellence throughout Horizon’s organization,” Marino said.
Before joining Horizon, Conlin worked as an EVP with Coventry Healthcare, and has also served as CEO and president of a large Kansas-based health system. He has a bachelor’s in biological sciences from Rutgers University, and a master’s in health administration from Duke University.
