N.C. Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin met with top executives of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina last week to discuss the insurer’s ongoing payment and enrollment problems.
As a result of the issues, the N.C. Department of Insurance will be initiating an examination of the company to monitor compliance with statutes and regulations. A public report of findings will be issued after the conclusion of the examination.
Since Jan. 4, NCDOI has received more than 1,000 complaints from BCBSNC customers related to issues such as overbilling, inability to verify effective coverage and lack of a way to pay premiums due to company system errors.
